The study is also significantly limited because there wasnt a way to test every breed of dogs or cats. Furthermore the research didnt take into account that completely different breeds inside a species differ significantly in cognitive means.

Dogs are likely smarter than cats. Cats have also made themselves useful to humans by killing pest rodents. While pet owners have loads of data to prove that cats are smarter than dogs or the other way around theres little scientific evidence to back up those claims.

Since both have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Since dogs are generally easier to train the assumption is that the dog is smarter than the cat. However its possible to train cats you just have to approach it a different way.

That doesnt mean that cats arent smart. Based on this we can say that dogs are smarter than cats. Be aware that how smart a cat or dog is also depends on the breeds.

But humans bred dogs for millennia to do those very jobs.
