Uncut Gems Ending Reaction
There is the pat and violent ending a now-standard trope in post-Scorsesean cinema.
Uncut gems ending reaction. It doesnt seem to add up to much a little man lives his life but this is just enough. Uncut Gems ENDING REACTION. Hearing the surname of Howard Ratner the high-stakes high-stress Diamond District dealer in Uncut Gems immediately had me wondering if it was a reference to Gerald Ratner the British businessman who in the 1980s helped wipe 500 million off the value of his familys jewellery business with ill-judged comments about his products.
He and Julia would have burned through that 12 million easily and got into deep water again. We didnt see if Arnos other goon staking out the casino managed to catch up to Julia and steal the winnings. We didnt see Dinah and the kids reaction to Howards death.
The script feels incomplete. The ending of Uncut Gems though isnt something. He wanted it all and he got it all and he went out on.
The answer surprised him Howard as Benny recalled Sandler saying is not a good guy The Safdies have continually described him as. The ending of Uncut Gems is just ambiguous enough. That visceral reaction was unexpected and still haunts me.
MY PARENTS REACT TO UNCUT GEMS ENDING. It fills people with anxiety as the characters enter into this almost downward spiral into madness and yet the solution to the conflict of the movie is the most ridiculous one. The true ending is clearly left for the watcher to make up their own mind and so neither answer is incorrect.
But Sandler and Fox give it the humanity the Safdies wanted there. Richard Brody began writing for The New Yorker in 1999. And it plays out pretty much according to formula with the exception that a film noir would have had the good sense not to make gambling so damn easy for Howard.
