White Cats With Blue Eyes Are Usually Deaf

Eye color in white cats also relates to the potential for deafness.

White cats with blue eyes are usually deaf. Are all white cats deaf. The fact is that hereditary deafness does tend to be a serious concern in white cats. Furthermore if a cat has one blue eye and one green the ear on the side of the blue eye is more likely to be deaf than the other.

Not all white Cats are Deaf. However a lot of white cats with blue eyes are. And 65 to 85 percent of white cats with two blue eyes were deaf.

The deaf ear is usually on the same side as the blue eye. While there is a clear correlation between the blue eye color and deafness in white cats why is this so. The blue eyes in a piebald or epistatic white cat indicates a lack of tapetum.

Deafness in the white cat is generally seen in the inherited congenital deficiencies found mainly in the white-coated cats. Strangely blue eye white cats tend to be deaf even more than others. Not all white cats with blue eyes are deaf.

White cats generally have blue eyes or reddish eyes within the case of albinos. Some of these cats are deaf in only one ear. Some of these cats are deaf in only one ear.

However the prevalence of white cats does vary in different geographies. White cats with blue and green eyes deaf. The degeneration of the auditory apparatus near the ear cause deafness in the white cat.
